Pacific International Lines (PIL) is seeking a highly analytical and commercially minded Cargo Flow Lead to join our West Africa Regional Office (WARO). This role will play a critical part in optimizing cargo flow, vessel utilization, equipment availability, and booking performance across West and South Africa. As the key regional coordination point between the Commercial, Trade, Operations, Logistics, and Customer Service teams, you will ensure cargo moves efficiently through our network while maximizing vessel utilization, protecting customer commitments, and supporting profitable growth.
KEY RESPONSABILITIES:
Space Management & Cargo Allocation:
- Manage vessel allocations and capacity utilization across West and South Africa.
- Monitor booking acceptance, loading forecasts, and overbooking risks.
- Ensure cargo acceptance aligns with available capacity and commercial priorities.
- Support optimal vessel filling while minimizing cargo rollovers.
Forecasting & Cargo Planning:
- Consolidate commercial forecasts, booking pipelines, and loading outlooks.
- Develop weekly and monthly cargo flow forecasts by trade, service, and port.
- Identify potential space shortages or cargo gaps early and recommend mitigation plans.
Equipment & Empty Evacuation Management:
- Coordinate closely with Logistics (Region, countries) and Trade teams to ensure adequate equipment supply.
- Monitor empty container positioning and evacuation plans.
- Proactively address equipment imbalances that may impact revenue generation and customer service.
Cargo Prioritization & Commercial Support:
- Partner with Sales, Customer Service, and Trade teams to prioritize strategic and high-value cargo.
- Safeguard key customer commitments during periods of capacity constraints.
- Optimize cargo mix to maximize revenue and service reliability.
- Provide visibility on avoidable costs related to rollovers, storage, and last-minute operational changes.
Operational Coordinationt:
- Support decision-making during schedule disruptions, port congestion, blank sailings, transshipment challenges, and cargo rollovers.
- Coordinate cross-functional corrective action plans to minimize service impact.
Performance Reporting & Analysis:
- Produce vessel utilization reports, booking pace analysis, loading performance dashboards, and shortfall reports.
- Analyze trends and provide recommendations to improve forecast accuracy and network efficiency.
Process Improvement:
- Standardize cargo flow and space management processes across the region.
- Enhance reporting tools, controls, and performance monitoring.
- Drive best practices and continuous improvement initiatives.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor’s degree in supply chain, Logistics, Maritime Studies, Business, or a related discipline.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in container shipping, trade management, network planning, cargo flow, logistics, or operations.
- Strong understanding of vessel capacity management, equipment planning, and shipping network operations.
- Experience working across multiple stakeholders in a regional or international environment.
