Job Responsibilities
We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Compliance Manager. This global role reports to our Head of Compliance and focuses on ensuring our group adheres to all relevant laws and regulations. The successful candidate will support our compliance programs which include trade compliance (embargos, international sanctions, export control), ethics and business integrity, competition law compliance, and personal data protection, ensuring they meet international standards and best practices. It is expected that the successful candidate will have a heavier focus on managing our sanctions and anti-bribery and corruption (ABAC) compliance program, with a lead role in sanctions due diligence screening.
Key Responsibilities
Policy Leadership & Framework Development
- Strategize and Lead: Oversee the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of compliance policies, procedures, and controls, with special attention on ABAC, conflicts of interest, and sanctions programs
- Global Consistency: Ensure policies align with international container shipping standards, including major jurisdictions’ regulations.
Regulatory Monitoring & Impact Analysis
- Proactive Surveillance: Track and interpret regulatory changes worldwide (e.g., trade sanctions, international anti-corruption statutes), assessing their impact on operations.
- Actionable Insights: Translate findings into clear, actionable guidance for senior management and operational teams, ensuring seamless compliance adjustments across all trade routes.
Sanctions & ABAC Subject Matter Expertise
- Daily operational: Manage the level 1 sanctions screening analysts and review level 2 escalations to determine paths forward.
- Operational Integration: Collaborate with business units (Commercial, Operations, Finance, etc.) to embed robust screening processes and internal controls—particularly in sensitive jurisdictions and when onboarding new customers or partners. This includes management of shared service centre to deliver compliance services.
- Primary Advisor: Serve as the go-to expert for high-risk areas, especially sanctions compliance, conflicts of interest, and anti-bribery and corruption matters.
Risk Assessment & Program Enhancement
- Holistic Oversight: Continuously evaluate the effectiveness of existing compliance programs (competition law, trade compliance, ABAC, etc) against shipping industry benchmarks.
- Strategic Improvements: Identify vulnerabilities and lead initiatives to strengthen policies, training, and monitoring systems, fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
- Good to have experience with data driven compliance program and could demonstrate interest in leveraging technology to streamline manual processes.
Investigations & Incident Response
- Assist in Investigations: Assist with inquiries into potential non-compliance incidents (e.g., suspected sanctions breaches, bribery allegations).
- Root-Cause & Remediation: Document findings, recommend corrective measures, and communicate outcomes to leadership and relevant parties, ensuring lessons learned are integrated into future practices.
Training, Culture & Awareness
- Program Development: Design and deliver targeted training modules for employees at all levels, with a focus on high-risk areas such as ABAC, sanctions screening, and ethical decision-making.
- Cultural Integration: Work closely with HR and department heads to embed compliance values into daily operations, reinforcing a proactive and transparent compliance culture within PIL.
Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Law, Business Administration, Accountancy or Information Technology or equivalent field.
- Proven experience (minimum 5 years) in a compliance role within a multinational corporation, preferably in the container shipping or related industry.
