We are seeking an Assistant Manager, Operations to support the Regional Head of Operations in driving operational excellence across the region. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in coordinating vessel and container operations, supporting agency performance, ensuring operational compliance, and collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to optimize service reliability, cost efficiency, and customer satisfaction.


Key Responsibilities

Operational Excellence & Vessel Management

  • Support the Regional Head of Operations in overseeing agency operations relating to vessel activities across the region.
  • Coordinate vessel call planning, schedule adjustments, berth planning, and operational execution with agencies and terminals.
  • Act as the primary liaison between Regional Operations, Head Office Vessel Operations teams, terminals, and local agencies to ensure timely communication and issue resolution.
  • Monitor vessel performance and support initiatives to maximize vessel utilization and improve terminal velocity.
  • Track operational KPIs across regional agencies, identify performance gaps, and support corrective action implementation.
  • Coordinate vessel and cargo stowage planning activities while ensuring compliance with safety standards, regulatory requirements, IMDG regulations, and special cargo instructions.
  • Support the safe handling and transportation of special cargo, including project cargo and out-of-gauge (OOG) shipments.
  • Ensure operational data and system updates are completed accurately and within required timelines.
  • Support the implementation of operational policies, Head Office circulars, process improvements, and training initiatives across the region.
  • Provide first-line operational support during vessel incidents and emergencies, coordinating with agencies, local authorities, classification societies, and Head Office stakeholders.

Procurement & Cost Optimization

  • Support contract renewals and commercial negotiations with marine service providers, terminals, and operational vendors.
  • Prepare supporting analyses, reports, and documentation for procurement reviews and negotiations.
  • Monitor vendor performance, service quality, and tariff competitiveness against market benchmarks.
  • Identify opportunities to improve operational efficiency and reduce costs across marine and terminal operations.
  • Assist in evaluating and implementing cost-saving initiatives while maintaining service quality and operational integrity.
  • Support procurement activities related to Third-Party Feeder (3PF) services within the region.

Performance Monitoring & Reporting

  • Prepare periodic operational reports, management dashboards, KPI analyses, and presentations.
  • Maintain operational trackers, follow-up logs, and action plans to ensure timely closure of outstanding issues.
  • Analyze operational trends and provide recommendations to improve performance, productivity, and service reliability.
  • Leverage digital and AI-enabled tools to improve reporting efficiency, data consolidation, and operational analytics.
  • Support management reviews through the preparation of performance insights and operational updates.

Stakeholder Management & Collaboration

  • Build effective working relationships with agencies, terminals, service providers, customers, and Head Office teams.
  • Participate in operational meetings and represent the Regional Office when delegated.
  • Facilitate cross-functional collaboration to drive operational improvements and service excellence.
  • Support communication and alignment between regional and global stakeholders on operational priorities and initiatives.

MUST HAVE

  • Bachelor's Degree in Shipping, Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Maritime Studies, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum 8 years of experience within the shipping industry, particularly in Liner Operations, Vessel Planning, Vessel Operations, or Container Logistics.
  • Strong practical knowledge of vessel operations, port operations, and container shipping processes.
  • Experience working with terminals, shipping agents, and operational stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Familiarity with AI-driven productivity tools and operational reporting systems.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a keen attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and perform effectively in a fast-paced operational environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Willingness to travel within the region as required.

  • Experience in vessel planning, stowage coordination, and cargo operations.
  • Knowledge of IMDG regulations, dangerous goods handling, and special cargo operations.
  • Exposure to procurement, vendor management, and feeder operations.
  • Experience with data visualization and reporting platforms such as Power BI or Tableau.
  • Strong stakeholder management and influencing skills.
