This person serve as a vital link between ship and shore management. Overseeing day-to-day operations of the assigned ships thereby taking necessary actions and decisions to maintain asset value of the ships, statutory compliance, budget management and timely technical assistance to ensure seamless flow of business operations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • At least two inspections per ship in a year of which one should be a sailing inspection. The interval of two inspections should not exceed 8 months.
  • Deck condition and machinery performance to be evaluated on a monthly basis.
  • Fuel and lubricating oil excess consumption to be tracked monthly using the Tableau reports.
  • Ensure vessel management completes PMS activities in a timely manner.
  • Dockyard planning and selection to be done following SOP.
  • Project completion within the forecasted timeline.
  • Major projects and repairs to be tracked daily to ensure adherence to the budget and proposed timeline. All stake holders to be informed of any un-expected deviations to the initial plan.
  • Accurate budget forecasting and submission for approval.
  • Monthly tracking of spend rate on running repairs, spares, project and other consumables.
  • To provide justification and apply approval for the cost of repairs and spares not accounted for during the budgeting exercise.
  • Prioritization of Normal/Urgent/Critical orders to be aligned with requirement onboard ships.
  • Identified ship specific critical spares to be maintained on ships at all times.
  • To ensure vessel’s onboard management are aware of the requirements and ready for Flag State inspections, Port State inspections and statutory surveys.
  • All deficiencies, recommendations, COCs, dispensations to be closed within the recommended deadline.
  • Monitoring of Class and statutory status monthly to ensure vessel is in compliance with all requirements.
  • Observations from 3rd party inspections to be resolved within the timelines specified in documents.
  • Vessel Manager to be involved in interviewing for recruiting and deployment of Master, CO, CE, 2E and EE as requested by MPD.
  • Performance evaluation of officers from designated ships to be carried out diligently within a time frame of 2 weeks.
  • All relevant stakeholders both internal and external to be updated as required about incidents, accidents, major repairs or technical issues that may or will have an impact on reliability of the ship operations.
  • Vessel Manager will be the primary point of contact between ship/shore. He/she will manage the situation promptly with good leadership skills.
  • Vessel Manager will actively participate in an emergency situation and ready to assist the SERT with required technical information. 
  • Being up-to-date with current and emerging trends in the industry and their application in our workplace.
  • Presenting business cases for vessel upgrades or adoption of emerging technologies to optimize performance.
  • Putting the frameworks and supporting materials in place for fleet-wide compliance of upcoming regulations.
  • Drive trials and implementation of innovative solutions onboard vessels.
  • Arrangement for cover when team members are on leave or away for docking.

MUST HAVE:

  • Graduate Engineer and/or holder of COC Class 1 (Unlimited FG).
  • Diploma or Degree Holder of a relevant discipline (Marine Engineering, Naval Architect, etc.)
  • Following experience would be relevant and preferable:
    • Experience as Chief Engineer onboard Ocean-going vessels.
    • Experience as Technical Superintendent / Vessel Manager
    • Experience as Class Surveyor
    • Alternate experience such as Master Mariner, Naval Architect, Electrical Engineer, Hydraulics Engineer, and experience in project management such as ship-repair / ship building may be considered.
  • Experience in handling and managing ships powered by low carbon fuels such as LNG or Methanol
