Join Our Team as Regional Finance Controller. We’re looking for a seasoned Finance professional with an entrepreneurial mindset to lead our Finance function across our West Africa Region (WARO). In this pivotal role, you’ll provide strategic oversight and financial leadership to multiple countries in the region (Ghana, Togo, Benin, Cote D’Ivoire, Nigeria, Cameroun and South Africa) and act as a trusted business partner to the WARO Regional Head.
You’ll play a key role in supporting global finance transformation initiatives, shaping local strategy, and building a high-performing finance organization that drives business growth. Your accountability will span the quality and integrity of all financial information across the region. This position is based in Accra, Ghana, reporting directly to the Regional Head, WARO.
Key Responsibilities:
Financial Performance Management and Analysis:
- Oversight responsibility to ensure agencies maintain accurate and timely financial records.
- Monitor financial performance of each country, analyzing key metrics and indicators and drive agencies on improvement actions
- Provide financial analysis and insights to senior management and business stakeholders to support decision-making
- Conduct periodic performance reviews of the agencies
Financial Strategy and Planning
- Guide agencies in annual budgeting and forecasting
- Drive financial modeling, scenario planning, and investment appraisal for strategic decisions
Control and Governance
- Establish and maintain internal controls to safeguard assets and ensure financial integrity in all agencies.
- Conduct periodic reviews to assess compliance with policies and procedures
- Provide assurance to management and stakeholders on reliability of financial information and effectiveness of internal controls
- Drive and implement Finance change initiatives locally, while also contributing to global initiatives as required.
- Liaise effectively with both internal and external auditors, facilitating audits and ensuring compliance with audit requirements and recommendations.
- Guide agencies in developing annual budgets and forecasts.
Continuous Improvement and Process Standardization
- Lead initiatives to standardize financial processes and best practice across agencies under purview.
- Perform analysis of business processes and identify areas for improvement.
- Continually improve financial systems, processes and procedures.
- Lead agencies in financial modelling, scenario planning, and investment appraisal to inform business decisions.
Risk Management and Analysis
- Identify risks and opportunities for the agencies and make recommendations
- Work closely with the HQ Agency Control and Risk Management function to oversee implementation of risk management frameworks for agencies under purview
- Provide oversight and guidance to agencies in the region in ensuring compliance with audit requirements and recommendations.
Treasury and Cash Management
- Oversee cash management activities in alignment with the principal’s directives
Tax planning and compliance
- Collaborate closely with Group Tax to develop tax planning strategies for each country, aligned with the organization’s business objectives.
Team Leadership and Developmen
- Enhance the Finance Team’s technical skills in accounting, financial reporting, internal controls, tax, and regulatory compliance.
- Develop the team's communication, teamwork, and management abilities to improve overall performance.
MUST HAVE:
- At least 10 years of relevant Finance Controller experience, preferably in the shipping business in Africa.
- Professional qualification of CA or equivalent.
- Experience in Principal/Agency accounting.
- Strong in knowlege of accounting standards, internal controls and procedures
- Solid knowledge of tax laws/transfer pricing
- Ability to set up new business processes and to drive process improvements
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills ( fluent in both verbal and written English). Fluency in French would be a strong plus.
- Senior stakeholder management – must demonstrate experience in influencing and working cross functionally and in a matrix group with overseas HQ
- Experience in leading diverse teams, with a proven track record of developing people
