Important international shipping company is seeking a highly motivated, detail-oriented, and customer-focused Logistics & Intermodal Manager to join the dynamic team in DF, Mexico. The Logistics & Intermodal Manager will oversee, manage, and optimize all intermodal transportation activities (rail, truck, barge) across key corridors to ensure seamless cargo movement, operational efficiency, cost optimization, and customer satisfaction. The Intermodal Manager will be responsible for aligning inland logistics with ocean freight operations, ensuring end-to-end supply chain coordination.
KEY RESPONSABILITIES:
INTERMODAL:
Develop and execute intermodal planning and strategies integrating rail, truck, and barge transport with the local ocean network.
- Coordinate with inland carriers and terminals to ensure timely and cost-effective cargo movement.
- Monitor and manage inland container flows to avoid congestion, demurrage, or detention.
- Carrier & Vendor Management
- Negotiate and manage contracts with intermodal service providers, including trucking companies, rail operators, and barge services.
- Evaluate vendor performance (KPIs) and maintain strong relationships with key partners.
- Operational Coordination
- Liaise with internal stakeholders (e.g. ocean operations, customer service, documentation teams) to ensure alignment of inland operations with vessel schedules.
- Monitor real-time intermodal moves and address disruptions or delays proactively.
- Cost Control & Budgeting
- Optimize inland transport costs while maintaining service quality.
- Analyze cost data and propose initiatives for cost reduction without compromising efficiency.
- Regulatory Compliance
- Ensure adherence to local and international regulations related to inland transport and container handling.
- Maintain safety, legal, and environmental compliance standards throughout inland logistics operations.
- Customer Service Support
- Work closely with customer service teams to provide visibility on container movements and delivery updates.
- Resolve escalated operational issues affecting inland cargo movement.
- Data & Reporting
- Maintain performance dashboards for intermodal KPIs: on-time performance, cost per move, carrier reliability, etc.
- Prepare regular reports for management on inland operations and improvement initiatives.
LOGISTICS:
- Develop and implement logistics strategies to meet the company’s operational and financial goals.
- Oversee the management of depots, transportation, and distribution activities.
- Ensure compliance with all local and international logistics regulations.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with logistics partners, suppliers, and other stakeholders.
- Monitor and analyze logistics performance metrics to identify areas for improvement.
- Develop budgets and manage logistics costs to ensure profitability.
- Lead and mentor the logistics team, providing guidance and support for professional development.
- Assist the organization to reach Intermodal budget through participation in the procurement process and set up Standard Operating Procedures for the business.
- Actively participate in the Landside procurement process (Depots, Reefer services etc.) to secure competitive operating costs. Actively engage vendors for performance review and cost saving initiatives.
EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain, Transportation, or a related field.
- +10 years of experience in intermodal logistics, within the shipping or containerized cargo sector.
- Strong understanding of regional intermodal infrastructure and service networks.
- Proven experience in managing logistics vendors and intermodal contracts.
- Knowledge of port operations and container terminal processes is an advantage.
