Reporting to the General Manager of the Operations & Procurement Division (OPPC), you will be responsible for ensuring the operational excellence of the Group’s Liner Operations. In this leadership role, you will oversee and develop a team of professionals to drive efficiency and cost-effectiveness across vessel operations, stowage planning, scheduling, and the handling of Dangerous and Special Cargo bookings.
You will collaborate closely with internal and external stakeholders to optimize fleet routing, manage emissions and fuel consumption, and support the continuous improvement of operational processes through automation and digitalization initiatives. Additionally, you will play a key role in the budgeting process, lead cost optimization projects, and support other strategic initiatives as directed by the Division Head and senior leadership.
Key Responsibilities:
Liner Ops
- Lead the teams managing vessel operations, stowage planning, scheduling and review of Hazardous and Special Cargo bookings
- Manage Fleet performance and service reliability for PIL Long Haul, Short Sea, Subsidiary & consortium services.
- Minimize impact to service reliability and cost to operations, by managing service recovery and providing alternative options, driving root cause analysis and implementing preventive measures.
- Devise & implement Liner Operations KPIs & regularly review their effectiveness.
- Deliver optimized stowage plans for PIL Operated vessels that maximize
- Vessel space as per declared Basic Slot Agreement, while simultaneously looking for opportunities to exceed this target.
- Maximize crane intensity for each class of vessels.
- Develop and deliver programs for sustained higher crane productivity utilizing cycling, twin picks, or tandem lifts.
- Ensure compliance with safety and regulatory guidelines for dangerous goods & regularly conduct reviews on PIL prohibited list of commodities.
- Continuously improve port turnaround times and operational processes.
- Prepare and manage budgets including for Fuel, Bunker Quantity Surveys, etc
- Work closely with the OPPC Terminal Procurement and 3PF team to provide the necessary support & develop service level requirements.
- Work closely with OPPC Business Process (Strategy, Systems & Projects) and Centre for Maritime Efficiency teams to:
- Study & improve/optimize vessel schedule applications.
- Design & develop efficient fleet performance management tools and strategic fuel saving capabilities including for vessel performance, fuel efficiency and consumption tracking.
- Identify and review fuel saving initiatives.
- Support Division head in Crisis Management
- Support other strategic initiatives as directed by the Division Head and senior leadership
Fleet Studies Management
- Facilitate operations & business analysis, including project management in effort to support broader company objectives;
- Evaluate & recommend suitability of vessels for deployment in the intended service
- Establish vessel max operational intake capacity basis intended service deployment & advise Network Design & Trade Teams the recommend TEU & weight declaration with possible owners’ merit or demerit.
- Support the Centre for Maritime Efficiency to study & implement vessel efficient profiles like Trim & ballast optimisation.
- Support Network Design Team with operational inputs for P&L calculations & proforma studies.
Hazardous & Special Cargo Booking
- Support hazardous cargo business growth.
- Manage the Global Special Cargo Operations desk handling bookings, enquiries.
- Functional business owner for Hazardous Shared services handling bookings, enquiries, audits.
- Ensure enquiries and bookings turn around within stipulated timeframes as agreed with booking agents and/or consortiums.
- Devise & implement processes for faster turn around
- Implement, review and maintain company policies for hazardous and special cargo acceptance.
Financial Cost Analysis
- Review cost deviations impacting Operational expenditures
- Lead monthly performance reviews with regional operations teams & agencies
- Perform deep-dive studies based on a clear understanding of Operational procedures, local market practices, country regulations and propose potential solutions/action plans to generate additional cost savings and/or revenue
- Identify Liner Operations efficiency savings targets and capture the monthly actuals
- Follow up with local agencies for studies / initiatives, as well as review & approve the financial targets estimated
MUST HAVE:
- Degree in Maritime or equivalent professional qualifications
- Degree in Business Management is an advantage
- At least 10 years relevant Liner & marine operations experience with global container liner companies.
- Sea going experience with masters ticket is an advantage
- Experience in leading teams, ability to handle multiple projects, work well under challenging demands, Self-driven & results focused.
- Good command of English
- Excellent Microsoft office & dashboarding skills. Advance certification in tools like Power BI, Tableau, Qlik View/Sense preferred.
