We are seeking a highly experienced and driven individual to establish, Head of Entity, to lead and expand PIL Logistics operations in Mozambique. The successful candidate will drive business growth by delivering reliable, cost-efficient, and end-to-end logistics solutions, ensuring operational excellence, and building a strong market presence in Mozambique and the broader Southern African region.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Business Establishment and Leadership
- Entity Setup:
- Lead the establishment of PIL Logistics in Mozambique, including registration, infrastructure development, and operational readiness.
- Identify and secure suitable office facilities, warehouses, and transportation solutions (trucks, drivers, and partners).
- Strategic Direction:
- Define the strategic vision and roadmap for logistics growth in Mozambique.
- Establish SOPs, governance frameworks, and performance KPIs for all business functions (sales, operations, finance).
- Leadership:
- Build and lead a high-performing logistics team, recruiting and nurturing talent with a focus on operational efficiency and customer excellence.
- Foster a culture of teamwork, innovation, and accountability.
2. Business Development and Revenue Growth
Market Penetration:
- Develop and execute a robust go-to-market strategy to establish PIL as a key logistics player in Mozambique.
- Identify, pursue, and secure new business opportunities across industries, leveraging your network and market insights.
Customer Engagement:
- Build and maintain strong relationships with key customers, vendors, and local authorities.
- Provide tailored logistics solutions, including intermodal transportation (road, rail, sea) and cross-border services.
Revenue Optimization:
- Develop cost and profit models to ensure competitive pricing while optimizing margins.
- Manage commercial performance by meeting revenue, volume, and profitability targets.
Sales Pipeline:
- Build a healthy sales funnel by identifying potential clients, nurturing leads, and converting high-potential opportunities into long-term partnerships.
3. Operational Excellence
- End-to-End Logistics Solutions:
- Oversee the design and execution of comprehensive logistics services, including warehousing, distribution, and intermodal transportation.
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure seamless integration of supply chain solutions.
- Cross-Border Expertise:
- Manage and streamline cross-border logistics operations, ensuring compliance with customs, regulatory requirements, and port processes.
- Optimize transit times and mitigate risks associated with international logistics.
- Port and Shipping Operations:
- Collaborate with port authorities, shipping partners, and vendors to ensure efficient cargo movement and minimize operational bottlenecks.
- Vendor and Supplier Management:
- Develop partnerships with reliable service providers (transportation, warehousing, and customs agents).
- Negotiate and manage contracts to ensure quality, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness.
4. Financial and Strategic Management
- P&L Ownership:
- Manage the entity’s Profit and Loss, ensuring revenue growth, cost optimization, and sustainable profitability.
- Conduct financial forecasting, budgeting, and reporting.
- Operational Efficiency:
- Implement systems to track performance metrics, ensuring adherence to delivery timelines, service excellence, and cost targets.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives to optimize workflows, processes, and resource utilization.
- Risk and Compliance:
- Ensure compliance with corporate governance, legal requirements, and ethical standards.
- Mitigate risks related to operations, financials, and reputation.
MUST HAVE:
- Professional Experience:
- Minimum of 10-15 years of experience in logistics, transportation, or supply chain management, including leadership roles.
- Proven experience in setting up and managing logistics operations in Mozambique or Southern Africa.
- Background in top logistics companies (e.g., DHL, Bollore Logistics, CEVA, Damco) preferred.
- Industry Knowledge:
- Strong understanding of Mozambique’s logistics market, including warehousing, cross-border trade, customs regulations, and intermodal transportation.
- Familiarity with shipping, port operations, and regional logistics trends.
- Leadership Skills:
- Demonstrated ability to build and lead teams, drive performance, and influence stakeholders.
- High emotional intelligence and people management skills.
- Business Acumen:
- Strong financial management capabilities, including P&L ownership, cost modeling, and revenue forecasting.
- Proven ability to identify market opportunities, close deals, and grow business segments.
- Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in logistics management systems, CRM tools, and data-driven decision-making.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and negotiation skills.
