We are seeking a highly driven Cluster Transport & Intermodal Manager to join our Zambezi Cluster team. Based in Maputo, Mozambique and reporting directly to the General Manager, this role is pivotal in overseeing Intermodal and Transport operations across Mozambique, Malawi, Zambia, and Zimbabwe.

 

You will lead the planning, execution, reporting, and performance monitoring of intermodal flows, ensuring compliance, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness. This role requires strong analytical expertise, negotiation capabilities, and the ability to collaborate across markets and functions - including Regional Office, Headquarters, Customer Service, Procurement, and local operational teams.

 

Key Responsibilities:

 

Intermodal Operations & Planning

 

Monitor Intermodal volumes per vessel at all Mozambique ports (imports/exports).
Oversee end‑to‑end Intermodal operations across the Zambezi Cluster.
Ensure full adherence to internal and external SOPs, including regulatory requirements.
Identify idle containers, analyze root causes, and implement corrective actions.
Coordinate the preparation and signing of Intermodal supplier contracts across the cluster.

 

Procurement, Pricing & Cost Control

 

Conduct supplier negotiations in coordination with the Procurement Team.
Ensure all extra costs are recovered from customers or suppliers as required.
Price Intermodal shipments within the Mozambique corridors following regional margin guidelines.
Create, monitor, and meet the Intermodal Budget for the cluster.
Perform consolidated cost reconciliation and control reporting.

 

Performance & Market Intelligence

 

Evaluate service provider performance and highlight inconsistencies.
Initiate transporter allocation percentages for Mozambique corridors.
Collect cluster market data and identify new business opportunities.
Promote Mozambique corridors within the local and regional markets.
Drive efficiency improvements in timelines, costs, and operational execution.

 

Reporting & Compliance

 

Prepare monthly Intermodal statistics reports.
Send weekly TBL updates to Cluster Management and MARO.
Submit monthly TBL conversion follow-ups and conversion reports to MARO.
Compile monthly cluster cost control reports.
Ensure adherence to PIL’s Business & Ethics Policy and company-wide procedures.

 

MUST HAVE:

  • Extensive knowledge of Intermodal and shipping operations management.
  • Strong background in reporting, analytics, and market intelligence.
  • Proven experience in transport, logistics, or shipping operations.
  • Strong negotiation, planning, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and operational systems.
  • Ability to work under pressure while maintaining accuracy and control.
